About Inpatient Services Costs
Average cost estimates for inpatient services reflect payments made for all care received between the admission and discharge date or on the date of service. The average cost is based on the insurance paid amount plus patient copay, coinsurance, and deductible amounts.
To facilitate meaningful comparisons, services are grouped using the 3M All-Patient Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (APR-DRGs) software. APR-DRGs are used to group hospital inpatient services based on severity of illness, risk of mortality, medical prognosis, need for intervention, and intensity of resource use in treating patients. See the Methodology page for more information.
